We went back to Charlotte, NC for the first time since moving and decided to take the kids to the NASCAR Hall of Fame. We’ve always wanted to check it out and it seemed like the perfect time since it was literally the first thing we saw when we looked out of our hotel window. Just in case you’re ever in the area and need a nice hotel we stayed at the Home2 Suites by Hilton Charlotte Uptown. The room was clean, spacious, and the service was excellent!
I wasn’t really sure what to expect or if it would be fun for the whole family but it was! My 2-year-old daughter, 6-year-old son, and 16-year-old niece all enjoyed it! There are a ton of interactive experiences throughout the exhibits so it keeps everyone engaged. Maelyn, my toddler, was able to stretch her legs and run for a bit in some areas because there is also a lot of open space.
Once you arrive you are given a card for the interactive experiences that you can customize with your preferences and even a picture. I highly suggest adding your picture for a little surprise (spoiler below). The card also allows you to scrapbook certain experience and access the content at home. They offer guided tours but we chose to freely explore this time.
The facility is wheelchair accessible with elevators through out. They even have a few wheelchairs available to use on a first come first serve basis. There are sign language interpreters available upon request. A two week notice is needed for the interpreter but majority of the videos they show have captions which is great if you aren’t able to give them a two week notice.
We didn’t do research beforehand so when we ran into the great Lightening McQueen we all kinda had a fan moment. My son fell in love with the Cars movies when he was about 2 and we have been super fans ever since so this was a nice surprise. Even my daughter who has no clue who McQueen is started screaming “red car” as if it was the coolest thing she’s ever seen.
We will definitely be going back because there is a racing simulator that we can’t wait to try. You have to be at least 54 inches tall to do the simulator so we decided to wait and do a family race when my son is tall enough. I’m the best driver in the family so I’m going to go ahead and put it out there that I’m taking home the win.
Add the NASCAR Hall of Fame to your list of things to do in Charlotte, NC. Overall the facility is beautiful and the experience was educational and fun for all ages.
