Schools have shut down for at least two weeks in an attempt to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Now what? Don’t worry! I’ve compiled a list of things you can do to help keep your children busy.
Puzzles
FYI: Dollar Tree has a ton of puzzles for all ages! They even have some with popular Disney characters. I grabbed Myan one with Lightening McQueen the other day and they have a lot more.
Hide and Seek
Fun Fact: We have been playing hide and seek with Louie (our dog) sing he was a puppy. We love playing hide and seek as a family and typically end up laughing hysterically at the creative hiding spots we find.
Water Play
If you aren’t able to go outside you can use a small storage container or a large bowl and let them add toys, bubbles, food coloring, or all the above!
Read Books
This is the perfect time to catch up on some reading for adults and kids. Schedule a daily quiet time so that everyone can relax and dive into a good book.
Bake
Myan and I love cooking everything together but baking banana bread is our favorite. There is something about that sweet smell of bananas filling the house that we can’t get enough of. Baking cookies and making homemade pizza are also fun ways to get your kids involved in the kitchen.
Get Fresh Air
A moment of fresh air will do everyone some good. Go in your yard for a few minutes or take a walk around the neighborhood. This is a good time to bring back the game “I Spy”.
Build Forts
Art
There are so many different art materials you can use to make it fun and exciting each day. Some of our favorite materials to use are markers, chalk, paint, scissors, glue, watercolor, and clay.
Sensory Projects
Kids love to make a mess so why not let them? It is sure to keep them busy for an extended period of time. Making goop is one of our favorite sensory projects. You only need cornstarch and water. If you have older kids you can let them experiment with vinegar and baking soda.
Watch Movies
We love a good movie night! Shout out to Disney+ for adding Frozen 2 super early so that we would have something new to watch.
Bubbles
Bubbles never get old. Get creative! We blow bubbles inside, take them outside, count them, step on them, catch them, play tag… whatever keeps them occupied!
Board Games
Card Games
Scavenger Hunts
Dance Parties
We will be having a ton of dance parties because it is the perfect way to burn off some energy. It is also the perfect opportunity for your kids to teach you the newest dance moves.
Building Blocks/LEGO
Household Chores
Let them help around the house. Myan loves helping me with variety of tasks. You can make it fun or into a competition to see who can clean the fastest (without compromising quality of course).
Pretend Play
I expect a lot of this to be going on in our house. Pretend play leads to endless hours of fun. You can have a restaurant, grocery store, doctor’s office, veterinarian, school, and more.
Online Learning
I know a lot of schools are allowing the students to do their work online but if your child doesn’t have that option there are plenty of great online resources. Myan uses Lingokids (available on the App Store) and he loves it! CLICK HERE for a list of all the educational companies that are currently offering free subscriptions during this time.
Let me know in the comments any other fun activities you plan to do over the next few weeks. Stay safe and remember to WASH YOUR HANDS!
